Unnecessary Suffering

In the 2012 EuroFAWC-meeting the participants debated the aspects of Unnecessary Suffering.

In general it is concluded that the debate on unnecessary suffering covers all kinds of animals, e.g.

farm, companion, sports, game and pest animals.

Finally the statements of the EuroFAWC participants regarding unnecessary suffering are these:

Causing animals to suffer is repugnant and should be prohibited unless the suffering is:

i) outweighed by legitimate societal interests that are judged to be necessary; or

ii) in the animal’s interests.

EuroFAWC strongly encourages a debate about the legitimacy of those interests that outweigh those of animals.
